EYE ON BALMAIN
Have you bought in Balmain? You are moving to a suburb with a real village feel with a strong community sense and lots to see and do. Check out our information on your new community.
West of Sydney's city centre is the peninsula suburb Balmain. What was once one of Sydney's oldest working class suburbs with shipyard workers settling close to the docklands, has now turned into one of Sydney's trendiest suburbs with Victorian architecture and a strong art scene. With the bustling energy of the main street, Darling Street, with many cafes, old pubs, boutique shops and chain stores mixed in with streets of historical charm, Balmain is a suburb with real character and culture.
Balmain comprises of 2km2 in size with 3% of area parks. The population as at 2006 was 9,096 which was a growth of 6% from 5 years before. The main age group represented in Balmain is 30 - 39 year olds. Households are mainly sole parents with the current median sale price of house is $1,345,000.
Did you know? ...... The area of which Balmain sits today was sold in 1801 for 500 shillings to settle a debt.
