EYE ON MANLY
Manly is a popular beach suburb of the Northern beaches in Sydney. With water covering three sides of the suburb area, it is a haven for water enthusiasts and has a real 'out-doors' feel to it with lots of parks and open space. Manly is home to a diverse range of residential, business, industrial & natural landscapes. The area is well known for its natural environment with sandstone, bush & waterways all contributing to the beautiful landscape.
Manly is a very popular destination for tourists and boasts a strong bar & restaurant scene with many great options for entertaining available mainly around the popular 'the Corso' area.
Did you know...... Captain Arthur Phillip visited the area now known as Manly between 21st & 23rd January 1788 and was impressed by the 'manly' behaviour of the local aboriginies, the Gurringai people. Thus it became known as 'Manly' ! On a more somber note though, in 1789 a smallpox epidemic spread through the local Aboriginal tribes and wiped out between 50 - 90% of the population.

Other stable favourites include Whitewater for modern Australian; Garfish for lovely fish & BYO; Yok Thai & Mortar & Pestle for yummy Thai; Manly Pheonix for Chinese on the water & the newly refurbished Manly Pier Restaurant situated on West Esplanade near Ocean World.
BARS & PUBS Manly beach & wharf is the perfect backdrop for drinks with friends or share a nice bottle of wine with your partner. There are some trendy bars newly opened in the area that has given Manly a much needed boost. Manly Wine by Gazebo is a 'female friendly' bar with fancy interiors & an extensive wine list; Hugos Manly for funky DJ beats & views of Manly harbour; In Situ for cocktails with a twist and courtyard seating; The Shore Bar is 'the place' to be on a Sunday evening & the small bar Safety Wolf has a solid following situated on Belgrave Street. The Steyne Hotel established in 1856 with rebuild in 1935 with an Art Deco design is always a favourite with tourists. There is the New Brighton & Ivanhoe Hotel's situated on the popular the Corso and the Manly Wharf Hotel & Manly Skiff Club for views on the Manly harbour.
