Smoothmoves Essentials
Careful planning is essential for a smooth move. From moving within the same suburb to across town, these handy planning tips will create a more organised move. Start planning your move as soon as possible. The best way to plan is to work backwards from you moving date into set timeframes. Everyone has different timeframes from months in advance to only days, however the earlier you know the moving day, the more prepared you can be. We are working off a 6 week settlement period. Adjust the time frames accordingly to your own situation.
2 weeks to go
You’ve succeeded with the essentials at the 6 week and 4 week markers and if things didn’t seem real earlier they will be now. By sticking to the planning time frames, everything will begin to fall into place.
In the final 2 weeks before your move, there are still essential requirements to be completed. What must be considered now?
- It’s also a good time to ensure all the arrangements you’ve made with friends and family who’re helping with the move are also up to date and remembered.
- Double check that everything you would have completed with 4 weeks to go has been done. This includes arranging the disconnection and reconnection at your new address of:
- Telephone - Internet service provider (ISP) - Electricity - Gas - Pay TV
- All DVD’s from the local video shop and library books need to be returned
- It’s time to start thinking about cleaning the property. For renters, this will mean steam-cleaning carpets and ensuring the dwelling is spotless – so to get return of bond. Why not get it professionally done? Just call Smoothmoves and we can organise it for you.
- If you have Smoothmoves professional packing ladies doing the packing for you, then you can breath easy.
- If you are doing all or some of the packing yourself, it is good to get really moving on this. Packing a house can take much longer than it looks. For all packing advice and tips check out our Essential Packing tips.
- A good idea is to clean any items that require it – especially rugs, curtains & doonas. When the items are returned from cleaners, they can be kept in their packaging for the movers.
- If you have small children, it could be worth looking at a babysitter, a friend or childcare on the day of the move. You will then be able to concentrate fully on the move. Smoothmoves can organise babysitters if required.
- Who will be looking after your pets? It might be a good idea to have someone take care of them for the day.
- Start cutting down on supermarket shopping and use what is in the cupboards – if you can.
- Try and use as much freezer food as possible as this saves moving it
- It’s a good idea to start backing up all your computer files.
- Ensure that all childrens school and daycare transfer documents are being sent to their new locations.
- Contact your GP and arrange transferring of medical records.
- If you taking our moving insurance, it is good to get onto this and finalise contract.
- If any dates have changed, notify Smoothmoves immediately.
- You’re nearly at your new address! There’s only the last essentials to worry about before you move.
