Telephone, Internet & Pay TV Essentials

Communication is key and when you move, you will want to make sure you are connected from the moment you move into your new home.

Your telecommunications options include:

  • Telephone
  • Broadband
  • Foxtel/Austar and other pay television options

Some questions to think about:

  • Are there additional charges when moving?
  • Disconnection/reconnection fees?
  • Can I change my provider and plan?

This is the perfect time to re-evaluate your current plans and see if there are some better deals out there.

Other questions to ask yourself include whether or not you will get the broadband coverage you require or are used to – this is an important consideration if you’re moving to a more remote area.

Internet Service Providers (ISP) require the same amount of notice as utility providers to connect you at a new address. There is likely to be a charge for connecting you as well.

Regarding telephone, let your telephone service know in advance of your move to disconnect you at your old address and to establish a new connection at your new address. Depending on the distance you are moving, you may need to change telephone numbers.

Pay television services will also need to be informed that you are moving. Your new property may not yet have a dish installed and this will need to be arranged with your current provider. If you need to change providers you may have to pay a fee to your current provider.

Always remember, the key to establishing a quick and hassle–free connection is the amount of time you let providers know about your move to a new address.  Check out Smoothmoves Relocations essential moving tips for time frames.
